302 “high-quality” (HQ) stainless steel is a highly specialized austenitic grade that addresses some of the limitations of standard 302 stainless steel and is widely used for manufacturing specialty fasteners. Compared to 302, the quality is more consistent due to tighter controls over sulfur and phosphorus content, formability and drawability are higher, and its response to polishing and other finishing operations is improved. The added copper in 302HQ improves formability in cold forming and progressive forming processes.
